In case you
missed it
, the guy that stalked and secretly videotaped ESPN reporter Erin Andrews got two and a half years in jail for his offense.
At first glance I thought this was a little extreme. Sure, he did something really douchy by videotaping her on the sly. He deserves something for that, without a doubt. But two and a half years?
Upon further review you can see what a clown this guy really was. He actually flew to the cities where she was working and requested a room next to hers and then drilled holes in the walls (as an aside, what hotel desk clerk allowed someone to request a room next to another guest?). He then got some really mundane (/really, really hot) video of her doing some rather silly things. And then he took that video and tried to sell it to TMZ. And then he did it to sixteen other girls. Sixteen!
I've got several thoughts on this (most coming from the male perspective):
1) There are lots of places on the Internet where you can see women in various states of undress. You could have saved yourself a few bucks by seeking them out.
2) Guys are fascinated with seeing famous women naked. That is why sites like celebritymoviearchive dot com exist (not that I've been there *coughing*, but I hear you can sort special scenes based on actress or movie). But couldn't you just be happy with the video? That's like a high school kid getting with his hot 24 year old English teacher and then seeing if he can include the equally hot Math teacher in a threesome. You had something that just about every guy in America wanted to see. I'm not advocating what he did but sometimes you just gotta be happy with what you got.
3) How on Earth did he think he was going to get away with this? First, he had to trust that TMZ wasn't going to turn him in (given their track record for doing douchy things, I can almost understand why he took that gamble). But even if they did bite it wouldn't be that hard for someone to do an investigation to see who had the room next door on the nights that she travelled.
On the plus side, we got a glimpse into what females do when they are getting dressed. Very scary stuff.

- A few of you have sent links suggesting that I reference the
prom that was canceled
because a girl wasn't allowed to bring another girl as her date. I started a blog about this the other day but stopped. Sure, there are lots of factors involved in this one but at the end of the day it boils down to one thing (that thing I try not to reference too much). I have a blog started where I'm going to mention this one as well as some similar stories that are in the news - I may put it out there in the near future. Preceded by a disclaimer, of course.
- One of my favorite actors is Michael Madsen. He has been the cool tough guy in so many of my favorite movies - Reservoir Dogs, Kill Bill Vol 2, etc. And he should have been Vincent Vega in Pulp Fiction (sobbing).
Anyway, I was going to post that this guy is so cool because you can go to his website and see what he thought about each of his movies and why he took the roles that he did. And when I mean that he says what he thinks, I mean he REALLY tells it like it is. For example, he took one role in an awful movie because he needed a mortgage payment.
Unfortunately it looks like someone got to him and he took down the links to that page. I did find one leftover page (
Species 2
) by playing with google terms.
