We've been on a Ken Burns documentary kick lately and last night we started his series on Jazz. While I'm not generally a fan of jazz I must say that I do enjoy hearing the early mutations of jazz. After taking in the first part of the series I was clicking around the high def stations and saw that there was a Kenny G concert on. I thought it might be funny to compare the cool jazz with the modern crap that passes for Jazz so I checked it out.
Sure enough, Yanni-lite did not disappoint. As for why anyone shows up to hear New Age elevator music played live, I don't know. I was about to change it when G started talking about how he can hold notes so long. He said that he can breath in through his nose while blowing out through that faggy instrument that he plays. Sure enough, he put the microphone up to his nose and started on a note. He held it for a couple of minutes and you could hear him breathing out his nose. I have to give it to him - I was impressed. He also looked pretty comfortable with that phallic thing in his mouth but that is a blog for another day.
It turns out that Ken used to have the world record for the longest note. He played a note for 45 minutes! Yikes.
On a side note, I couldn't help but notice the horrified looks on the men that were dragged to his show. Sometimes you just have to say no to this kind of stuff.
Anyway, here is a fun little safe-for-work (sfw) video. It is apparently meant to be some kind of public service video to warn us about using acid. I've never done drugs but this kinda made it look kind of fun.
