Why Pray to Pesci?

Let me toss in a disclaimer before I go any further: this site is not in any way affiliated or endorsed by Joe Pesci.

As I explained in the about me area, I started this blog because I wanted a place to express my opinions without having to worry about offending friends and loved ones. I was noticing that readership of my other blog were way, way, WAY down when I even hinted at the afterlife.
Praying to Joe PesciThe hardest part about starting this site was the URL. Should I find something humorous or something that was a little more... militant? (As an aside, I HATE the phrase "militant atheism". If I am vocal in my disbelieve in unicorns, does that make me a militant non-believer?) I went back and forth on this for weeks. And then it came to me...

For those of you that aren't familiar with the late, great George Carlin, he was a promoter of humanity and a damn fine atheist. In my travels I've noticed that one of the most effective ways to disprove a position is to show how silly it can sound. One of my favorite Carlin bits did just that - please check out the clip below. I don't know even the most faithful of the faithful can't see that all prayers are answered at the same rate, regardless of how good a person you are or what denomination you belong to. In other words... there is nobody answering these prayers.

And as Carlin said, I also think Pesci is a damn fine actor. There are few better scenes than his freakout in JFK (even if the movie was a load of crap).

Thanks for stopping in Andy - I hope you check in regularly. Now that you mention it, I do feel a cramp in my foot. Oh wait, it passed.... apparently I wasn't being punished for making this site after all. By the way, check out Carlin's autobiorgraphy that was published after his death. You get a better feel and understanding for this amazing man.

I don't usually follow links off youtube, but thought, by the title, and my love for George, I'd check yours out. I'm with you,and Carlin, if I can see it, it gives it credibility. I've yet to see a ghost, alien/flying saucer, Easter Bunny, Troll, Jesus, Santa Claus, etc. I've even been so brave as to openly, and very honestly invite any or all of these bogus spirits to show themselves to me. No replies, I guess they were all busy.
