I thought I'd take a step away from the serious stuff today and go for some of the lighter stuff. What could be more fun than getting a glimpse into someone's marriage? Ok, don't answer that.
We've found that laughing a lot is the best way to keep things light and carefree. Over the years we've developed a few things that are unique to us. I know that I've said this before but I think it is this kind of day-to-day stuff that really defines your relationship. Too many people get wrapped up in the mystical side of this stuff. I knew I had the right girl when I found someone that could put up with my quirks.
With that, here are a few things that you might not have known about us.
______________________________________________________________________________
We have a game where we tried to "get" each other. If someone says something loosely related to hearing, you have to pretend that you did not hear what they said in the hopes that they will repeat it again. I don't know why it is so delightful when you pull it off but it is.
One time (long, long, long time ago) we were having a rather bad fight and Rebecca said "you don't listen to me". Yup, you guessed it... even though we were in the middle of this awful fight I played that card. We both looked at each other and started laughing. End of fight.
______________________________________________________________________________
We take Rebecca's car to anywhere that... undesirables... might be. Her car already looks like the Memphis Belle did after its 25th mission over Germany. She pulls her car in to the garage, I always back in.
______________________________________________________________________________
When we take a bike ride, Rebecca insists on trying to beat me back to the house (the finish line is always the entrance to the garage - you have to hit the top of the door to "finish"). The funny part about the game is that Rebecca will try to bird-dog me every time. If you know her at all you know that she has the poker face of someone who is playing with double-sided cards and the acting chops of Keanu Reeves. But that's part of her charm, right? About a quarter mile from the house she'll start to make some awkward conversation in the hopes that I'll just suddenly forget about the game. I play along, of course. When we get into view of the house she'll suddenly get this really intense look on her face and she'll put the bike in high gear.
She hasn't won one yet.
______________________________________________________________________________
One of my downsides is that I hate to exercise with other people. I like to be in my own little world and I don't like to make a lot of conversation when I'm working out. I feel really guilty when we have to break up exercise time even though we're working out on different machines in the same room. I've gotten better with this, I think.
______________________________________________________________________________
Perhaps my favorite game is to try to put a bad song in Rebecc'a head so that she'll sing it the whole day. The current standard is "You're a grand old flag", but other past songs were "On top of spaghetti" and "Who built the Ark". Nothing pleases me more than when she'll just start humming one of them a couple of hours after I planted the seed. There is something really rewarding when she'll realize what she is doing and then get mad at herself (and me).
______________________________________________________________________________
Sometimes we'll be laying in bed and I'll break out my creepy Uncle voice and I'll talk to her like she is a little girl that needs to sit on my lap. Only one of us finds this hot.
______________________________________________________________________________
This may sound really odd but we listen to the same thing every night as we're in bed. Wait, let me clarify that - when we're falling asleep (I could say more here but I'd get in trouble). It is one of our favorite shows on XM - "Ron and Fez". I have my server record it directly from XM every night and then we stream it to the stereo in the bedroom using our directv receiver (probably TMI).
Anyway, the show is absolutely fantastic and I have no idea how to describe it. Ron is a former standup comic and Fez is an emotional mess that hasn't officially come out of the closet yet. One minute you're talking about classic movies and song, the next you're debating how many 10 year olds it would take to beat up a gorilla. They aren't shock jocks or anything like that. It is always fascinating and hysterical.
You can listen to them by hitting the play button on the bottom left-hand corner of this site or by clicking on this

to download it directly. I'm telling you, there is nothing better to listen to while you are exercising or driving. This show is a recent "best of" that includes songs that make Fez cry, favorite guilty pleasure music and a conversation about how people don't "get" Bob Dylan. The show always starts with a clip from a movie and then a cool song (I've discovered a lot of good music from their show intros). Give it a listen!
______________________________________________________________________________
After going back and re-reading this blog I realize that I should have titled it "How I torture my poor wife, volume 2". She's a good egg.
______________________________________________________________________________
Here is a little taste of "You're a Grand Old Flag". As an aside, I'd like to think that if I was ever going to make something like this that my buddy holding the camera would pull me aside and beat me. Anyway, I'm always open to more bad songs that you may know of. Use the comment button below.

Sometimes I wish the sound on my computer did not work... :) If people at the gym look at me funny as I hum this little diddy, I will smile and think of you! I love our life!!! Thank you for making me laugh!! :)
