Finally, the long-awaited blackberry app is here: Slingmedia. That's right, you can fully control your slingbox through your berry using the new sling player. Watch, record, pause, play, etc. Anything that you can do while sitting in front of your tv.
At the time of this writing the sling client has been offered officially to some carriers. If you are a little bit saavy with your berry you can get it to work on just about any carrier. My 8830 is currently on verizon. There is a small one-time for the app (I think $25) and it requires you to have a data plan.
Step 1). Upgrade your berry's operating system to one of the newest releases (I believe anything after .131 should work). If you have no idea what I'm talking about you may not want to continue because there is a small learning curve here. You can do it but it will take a little bit of time (but the benefits are worth it!). Follow
this post
to learn how to do that (it should work for all carriers).
Step 2). Using the berry's browser, download the player
here
. I had problems when I tried to type in the URL manually so I highly recommend clicking on the link from that page.
Step 3). Follow these instructions to install the player once it has downloaded:
- Turn the connections off on your berry
- Start Slingplayer
- Go to options
- Change from wifi to mobile, uncheck "Show Roaming Status", press end key to exit
- Turn radio back on
- Go back to Slingplayer
- Login to your slingbox
Here are some screenshots. For some reason I couldn't take a screenshot of live action but I can assure you it works great!
