So You Want To Be A Homeowner

Created : 04/27/2008 07:16:51 PM

2008 was the year that the beds finally got the attention they deserved. The previous owners probably hadn't touched them in a few years so it was high time to get it done. As you probably know, wood chips don't look so good after a few years.

I know, I know.... the problem I'm having is that I've spent a ton of time creating a content management system where I don' thave to write any HTML when posting a story nor do I have to worry about navigation as the code does it for me. The one thing I haven't done is come up with the best way to post numerous pictures.

I see a few ways to do this. If you have a better idea, I'm listening.

1) Put all of the pictures in the notes doc. The obvious problem with this is tha it severely slows load time.
2) Link to a 3rd party site. The obvious drawback to this is that you are pushing your user to another site. This would be fine if I'm posting large amounts of pics but most of the time this is not an issue. Also, I would assume that I would still want some pics to show on my page so I'd still have the original problem.
3) Use a third party tool to both create the navigation (index html) for each page as well as the thumbnails. The nice thing about Domino is that you can use it to serve both documents and pure html (the weather site is actually comprised of pure html created by the weather station). I've been using a freeware tool called webthumb to create the thumbnails. I noticed that it will actually create html index files for easy navigation. I'm probably leaning in this direction but I'd prefer a program that gave me some more options in terms of how the index file displays the pictures.
4) Attach all of the pics to the domino doc and then have some code that detaches them to the hard drive on save. The problem with this is thumbnail creation.

Please get your crap together and post some pics that are at least the size of what is on a cell phone. With all the disk space you have you could splurge for a few full resolution pictures. Even if you don't want the large pics slowing down the loading of the page you could at least link them. Geesh. 95x127 could you afford the pixels? You have Dolby surround, GPS and Temp sensors in every place including your bathroom and yet you post thumbnails. It's akin to driving your car around with four spare tire doughnuts on it and thinking it is cool.
