Rebecca and I are being treated to a David Gray concert tonight by a good (and thoughtful, even if she would rather see my cats eat inferior cat food) friend of ours. In case you don't know who he is, Gray is an Irish (I think) folk singer that had a few hits earlier in the last decade (especially Babylon). I've never seen him live but I have seen him on tv - he bobbles his head as he sings. I don't know why I just mentioned that.
Anyway, that got me to thinking about a blog that I've been meaning to write for a while. I do have certain practices that I follow when I go to shows and I don't believe that I've ever layed them out there. So without further ado.....
- I either drink a lot or nothing at all. I know there are some of you that have seen the former. I remember one in particular about eleven years ago in South Jersey. I had driven down to Beirut...errrr... Newark with some friends to see their Sunday night show. We hit awful traffic going through NYC and we ended up getting there an hour before the show. Plenty of time, you say. Nope. I had brought Labatt XXX (7.2% alchohol) from home. I put down about eleven of them in that hour.
Anyway, usually I don't drink at shows because I don't want to have to get up to go to the bathroom. I usually see shows of people that I like and I don't want to miss anything. That's the great thing about seeing the Stones - you can just go when Keith takes the mic (he's usually good for two songs).
- At some point I'll probably complain that I can't hear the words.
- At some point I'll laugh really hard at someone at the show. It could be air guitar guy or girl that has to sing all of the words. And I know that at one time or another I've been that person after I've had a few (insert douche chills).
- I always find the set list on the internet before the show. I'm not one of those people that wants to be surprised during the concert. After all, when you see it on the set list before the show you're just as likely to be surprised - right? This also serves two other purposes. One, if I am drinking I can go get a couple more beers. And two, if I'm at a venue like Darien Lake (one road in, one road out) and post-concert traffic is a big deal, I'm not nearly as likely to stick around for a mediocre encore selection. I think I got this from my father - we left everything a half an hour early. Thanks, pop.
- I analyze the show as it is going on. I would do this, wouldn't do that ... I'm sure it drives Rebecca crazy.

A quick website update. As you may have noticed, I've added a photo tab at the top of the site. I've also fixed all of the breadcrumbs so that you can easily navigate back to find past examples of why I shouldn't blog.
The most cool thing that I've added is a "Search" function at the top of the page. You can search on anything you'd like, including your own name so you can see what pearls of wisdom you've left on this site.
