The Struggle Between Form and Content

If you know me at least a little bit you know that I love my digital life. I love bells and whistles and being able to access any piece of information or music or a movie within seconds. I also love to sit down and just mindlessly browse the internet (that is probably redundant) for an hour or two. For me, this is relaxing.

Of course, there is a downside to all of this. I can spend hours on end just puttering when I should be reading or making calls or solving world hunger. The way my life is situated now I have plenty of time to do all of these things (although I only solve my own hunger) so it hasn't been an issue. I'm not the best manager of my time but having lots of time lets me get away with that.

I'm heading to a conference next weekend for work and I thought I would spend part of the morning doing some learning so that I can maximize my learning curve when I am there. So I broke out my web developer toolbox and started to play around with the new technology. The learning curve is steep and I feel like I'm barely crawling.

At the same time I know that I've been needing to pay some attention to this site. I haven't added much lately nor have I really done much with the design. And then it hit me - maybe I could combine all of these things into a combined project. The Ghostbusters were able to cross the streams - why can't I?

The unique thing about this here mess of a website is that I am both the designer and the content provider. I decide the structure and the jibberish that you all know and pretend to like. In that sense, my site is not unlike my life - I determine the structure and the content. In some ways that is kind of cool, I think.

(full disclosure: this is one of those blogs where I really thought I had something when it hit me and then it kinda fizzled when it came down to getting it out. Oh well.)
