Near-Misses

- Last night I had dinner with an old friend. In the few minutes between the time he arrived at my house and the time that we left for dinner there was an accident around the corner from my house where a woman and her daughter were killed. No, this isn't a blog that tries to put me into that story or to pretend that it could have been me (like this one).

I've often thought about how I would react if I was ever put into a crisis situation. I'm lucky (I'd say 'blessed', but...) in that I've never really had to deal with a real situation of any kind. What if someone was hurt and desperately needed assistance? What if a snap decision needed to be made in order to save the day? Could I handle it? Could I handle the aftermath? Will I ever have to find out the answers to these questions?

- One of these days I'm going to write something more on dating. The funny thing about having dated one or two different people is that to some of them you're a star and the one that got away and to others you're the one they are glad that they got away from. I can't say that there are any times where I really screwed someone over but I know there are times when I could have done some things different so as to not do the damage that I did. I don't really have a point with this... it is just something that I had on my mind last night and today.

- The last known survivor of both the Nagasaki and Hiroshima bombings died this week. Yikes, talk about bad luck. That kind of reminded me of this scene from 'Naked Gun 2':
