Michael Jackson passed away yesterday at the ripe old age of 50. I had him at 42 in my own personal death pool. I think Michael was just one of those guys that you knew wasn't going to be around for the long haul.
But how to look back at him? For the first half of his life, he was one of the most gifter artists that this world has ever seen. I remember when Thriller came out that everyone in school was in a rush to hear it and see the video. I was 10. In later years I went on to learn about his previous solo work and his work with the Jackson 5. He led several charity efforts and probably raised tens of millions over the years. Much of his later efforts dealt with social topics such as race relations.
And then there was the rest of it.
Despite his claim about not caring if he was black or white, Jacko seemed to be intent on being the latter. Worse, he came up with the awful explanation that he had a rare skin disease. Along with the anti-tan he also had round after round of plastic surgery that looks like it had been done by Ray Charles at night during an eclipse.
And the fun didn't stop there. What fun would it be if a guy that could probably get with just about any chick on the planet actually got with chicks. Strangely, he seemed more interested in surrounding himself with young boys (and lots of them). Throughout his life he was dogged by rumors or payoffs to the families of boys that he didn't see anymore. Another rumor said that he would be arrested if he went to Germany again. And my favorite, the adult alarm. Jacko would take kids to his personal bedroom and then close the door. If another adult walked down the hall an alarm would go off. I wonder why....
I guess in the end Jacko was all of these things. In a sense I do feel bad for him because I don't think anyone is ready to handle that kind of fame at that age. Still, a pedo is a pedo.
(I neglected to mention his duet with Paul McCartney. I cringe when I think of that or anything that sir Paul has done since then)
Respect for Kenny G
