Random Musings for a Monday Lunch

Some random thoughts during a monday lunch.....

- I really want to do some web video stuff. I've been finding some really interesting and funny stuff on youtube lately and came across some really cool home-made videos (here is one). Unfortunately, I have two things holding me back. First, I have no idea what the topic would be. Second, I hate seeing video of myself. And after the last video (here) the cats went on strike for more cat treats. Other than those two things... comedy genius is right around the corner. If anyone has an idea for what I could do please don't hesitate to speak up.

- I know that every day CNN.com does more and more to earn its nickname of "Chicken Noodle News" but one story from last week really stood out. This bastion of news integrity trumpeted a story about a little leaguer that threw a perfect game last week. Really? This is front page news? If you go to any little league in the country you will find at least one or two 7th graders with facial hair and a fastball that makes the other lesser-developed boys cower in fear.

- I see our President has been making the rounds in the Muslim countries while trying to play nice. I give him credit for that - he has a lot of bad blood to make up for after the mess that W left us. Having said that, I think it is sad that he has to do this. Don't get me wrong, I understand why he does. But think about what this really boils down to: a follower of one story written in the dark ages has to play nice with a group that followed a different story from the dark ages. Very sad.

- One of these days I'm going to drop completely off of the facebook grid. It has too many things that drive me crazy. My new one is the people that join the groups that slam other people. It isn't the slamming that gets me, it is the fact that the people slamming these groups of people often belong to that group. I can't tell you how many dolts I know that belong to the "hates stupid people group". Hey, you don't say..... That reminds me of the great quote about playing poker: "If you don't know who the rube is at the poker table, you're the rube".

- I've always wondered what our natural attraction to religion is. I was reading some Christopher Hitchens the other day and I think he summed it up nicely: we want to think that there is something more on the other side. Yes, it is that simple. Having said that, those that believe don't usually go all-in with that belief. After all, if people really believed that Heaven was all that wouldn't they just kill themselves to get their faster? (insert joke about 72 virgins).
