When Sunday Afternoon Becomes a Problem (and Pirate names)

I did notice a bit of a weird trend over the weekend. It seems that several married couples also reported difficulties in coming up with an activity that made everyone happy. I wish I could say that we did not have the same issue but we did on Sunday.

Before I go any farther, I'm going to acknowledge that the readers with kids probably want to strangle me right now. I know what you're thinking and yes, you're right - we should be happy that we have the free time.

Anyway, we didn't have anything to do on Sunday so we did our own thing for a while and then sat down during the middle of the afternoon to figure out what we were doing. I'll save you the details but in a nutshell we had different ideas about how to spend the rest of the afternoon. Rebecca and I are alike in a lot of ways but we are quite different in this area. I am the type that could spend hours and days just puttering. Rebecca isn't in any way a putterer - she would rather keep busy by going anywhere and doing something together.

I think I realized today what the difference is between us. I'm not the type that does activities just for the sake of doing them. For example, Rebecca would love to go to Elmwood to just walk around and see the local sites. Me? Not nearly so much. I'd rather read a book or do geeky things.

As with everything else in marriage, it is a learning process.

As you may know the Grand Island Bridges are a mess right now. Every night at 8 p.m. they shut down one bridge and route the traffic (single lane) over the other bridge. They do open the bridge by 6 a.m. the next morning (usually) but the traffic is slow the whole day.

I got tired of guessing at the bridge or struggling to find traffic cam images on my blackberry while I was driving so I decided to make a page on my site that consolidated some of the various traffic cams from around the web. Here is its: http://www.muchgooder.com/traffic (or click here).

I did add a little magic so that the southbound images appear at the top of the page in the morning and the northbound images appear at the top in the afternoon/evening. The northbound traffic is the big one as that is what is usually slow. I have ordered the camera images by distance from the bridge. If you see a backup in more than two cams then you might want to go around to the north bridge.

(I know, I'm a geek)

For the record, my first trip into the pool this year was on the 4th and the temp was 78. I stood on the ladder like a little girl for about 5 minutes before jumping in. I suck. Incidentally, the pool is at 84.5 (as you can see at the top of this page) at the time of this writing and I suspect that it could hit 90 by the end of the week. These solar panels really work.

I do have another "Adam throws himself under the bus for comedy" blog planned for tomorrow. I do have one or two things that I had forgotten about that I wish I had not remembered. Yes, they are that bad.

We spent a lovely day in Olcott on our little hill that overlooks Lake Ontario. It was 95 degrees outside but it was absolutely perfect on the hill because of the cool breeze coming off the lake. And I'll beat you to this comment - yes, we were able to agree on an activity.

One of our goals was to nail down a name for our little pillager. Rebecca had been wanting to do this for a while so that she could finish decorating the crow's nest upstairs. And yes, we did narrow it down to three names.

What, you thought I would tell you what they are?
