An Education 03/13/2010
Rating: 9.25 This is another perfect example of an unbelievable movie that flew under the radar. An Education is about a 16 year old girl that falls for an older gentleman. I know, this story has been done before (even though it is a rather strict interpretation of a true story). The beauty in this film is the story that surrounds the affair. I wish I could do it justice but you'll have to watch the film to understand...... more |
Precious 03/12/2010
Rating: 9 This film was about a young girl growing up in a very broken home in Brooklyn during the 80's. The film was horrific, tragic, beautiful and moving. It was a real testament to both the best and worst of humanity. The acting in this film was second to none...... more |
Up In the Air 02/27/2010
Rating: 8.5 We're making the rounds of the movies that are nominated for Oscars and this was the next one to watch. The one thing I had heard about it was that it is 2 hours of product placements. Anyway, the first half of the movie was rather uneventful. I always do enjoy George Clooney and Vera Farmiga was fantastic but the story was rather bland. However, the story really picked up in the second half and the ending was actually excellent. I still can't fathom how Anna Kendrick got Oscar attention for playing miserable/whiney girl. She had two memorable lines in the whole movie...... more |
 The Hurt Locker 02/26/2010
Rating: 9.25 I freaking loved this movie. There wasn't a 'war is hell' theme or anything like that (not that there is anything wrong with that theme, mind you). It is a story about a man with an obsession and the movie is a snapshot of 60 days with this man. Both the action sequences and the story are extremely gripping and the movie went by in a minute...... more |
 Inolerable Cruelty 02/20/2010
Rating: 7 Another entry by the Coen Brothers. The film was billed as a "smart romantic comedy", and for the first 90 minutes or so it was just that. I felt like the last 15 minutes were completely dishonest as the ending was not faithful to the rest of the movie...... more |
