Media Server

The advances in streaming technology have allowed home theater fanatics to move their home theater PC from their living room to another area of the house. I run my multi-purpose server from my basement. While my HR20-700 Directv receiver does have media streaming capabilities, I tend to use my PS3 for streaming media to my home theater.

Media Server:

- Dell Poweredge SC440 Server
- Windows 2008 Server (Standard Edition)
- 8 gigabytes of RAM
- Intel Core 2 Quad Processor Q6700 2.66GHz 1066MHz 8MB LGA775 EM64T CPU

Software

- Playstion Media Server (for streaming Blu Ray and other media)
- TVersity (hopefully to be replaced soon)
- Orb (for streaming XM radio to my blackberry and pool radio)
- Replay A/V (for recording my favorite XM shows)

Network

- Category 6 network cable (necessary if you want to stream at gigabit speeds)
- Netgear WNR3500 Gigabit Cable Modem
